SUSTAINABILITY IN CORPORATE CSR

In todays blog, I will share my insights and deeper understanding of sustainability through corporate social responsibility. By now, I expect my followers to grasp CSR, for those that do not, Just click here (previous Corporate CSR posts).

In first, I would like to provide a description of sustainability. According to the University of Californa, a 1987 U.N. report, defines it as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.Visit UC for more info on the subject.

Furthermore, this topic is a longevity-based one. Basically in the sense of corporate CSR, this means that all decisions the corporate headquarters of any firm takes today, will always leave a footprint. That is BTW, why the term reducing carbon footprints has been a widely spoken term in recent years. More interesting is the fact that it is also included in corporate social responsibility.

But customers and environmentalist take a one sided look on the whole picture when they speak about sustainability in corporate csr. They just acknowledge the green facts, and disregard the facts of the corporates own sustainability and development. It too has to live. I previously mentioned that corporate CSR is a current trend in the corporate world. And no wonder, hence it bridges the gap between sustainability on both sides to the picture.

As with everything else that is important in life, is a good urgency of balance. Too much is never good, too little still has a big upside to it. This is exactly where we are right now with corporate csr. we have several NPO organizations focusing on the good (not regarding the ones that abuse the concept and take profits for themselves). On the contrary, most regular corporations around the globe (at least 99.5% of all), put too little emphasis on CSR.

I have also previously mentioned how the corporate world does get away with looking good (performing good business practices). Basically it enables good marketing too direct your attention on small parts that are good, so that you avoid seeing the overall bad aspects of its operations. Corporate CSR gets away with it, to a minimal costs, sometimes it even make profits on its successfully implemented csr structure.

This is ethically and morally taught to be wrong by generating income on doing good. But I do believe that being smart, is to utilize a situation and make the best of it. If this means that you can do good on both sides of the picture, profit-wise and moral-wise, then you have an upside twice as strong. Moreover, entrepreneurs are usually motivated by earnings, but to make something profitable, they need to create a product with highly sought after capabilities. today, properties of products are highly influenced by CSR. They need to be, environmentally friendly, have a positive impact, long lasting, as well as being both cheaper and effective.

In incorporating such key CSR terms in one product, moreover a large world wide corporation, is not easy. Quite frankly, its near to impossible. But with all corporate competing to be prominent and key players in the corporate csr world, advancements are being made. This is why I hold such strong feelings for the term: corporate csr. Although we're still not there, we will reach ultimate csr practices because it is such a positive way of doing business, its neither boring, and it is meant good.

Thank you!
